O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Psalms 43:3

Illuminations

We are studying medieval history this year. We learned that the monks in Britain, during the Dark Ages, made pretty illuminations in the books they transcribed. We made our own illuminations. I used a paint pen to help them get the gold paint where they wanted the image to be gold. They colored the rest in bright markers. The monks would have used quill pens and gold leafing. They also used bright colors. This image was so detail oriented, the children began to appreciate how long it took the monks to copy their texts and make such beautiful images. A Tragic Story

E has been practicing A Tragic Story, by William Makepeace Thackeray. Here is his recitation. I coached him on making sure he enunciated and didn't use a monotone to speak, but the actions are all his doing.
